Frequently asked questions
What is AnimeGrids?
AnimeGrids is a daily anime grid trivia game where each square is solved by naming an anime that matches both its row clue and column clue.
How do I solve a square?
Pick an empty square, search for an anime title, and submit a choice that matches both the row clue and the column clue. A correct answer locks into the grid.
Can I use the same anime more than once?
No. Each anime can only be used once in a completed grid.
What is rarity scoring?
Rarity scoring shows what percentage of players used the same anime as you for a specific square. If 8% of players picked the same anime for that square, that answer has an 8% rarity. Lower percentages mean rarer answers, and your overall rarity score is the sum of your 9 cell percentages.
Is rarity per cell or per anime?
Rarity is per cell. The same anime can have different rarity percentages in different squares, because each percentage only compares answers submitted for that exact row-and-column clue combination.
What is the difference between MAL rank and popularity?
MAL rank is based on an anime's user score, so a lower rank number means it is rated more highly. Popularity is based on how many MAL users have added the anime to their lists, so a lower popularity number means more people have watched, planned, or tracked it.
Why doesn't an anime count for a genre or Movie clue?
AnimeGrids uses MyAnimeList genre and format listings. Sometimes a title may feel like it belongs to a genre, but MAL does not list that genre for it. Some movie-length releases are also listed by MAL as ONA or OVA instead of Movie, so they will not count for a Movie clue.
Can I play older puzzles?
Yes. The archive links to previous AnimeGrids puzzles when they are available.
